Medicare Part D open enrollment begins October 15th
Medicare is an important tool as we age, providing older Alaskans with valuable medical insurance. You paid for Medicare Part A premium during your working years which covers up to 80% of hospitalization. Part B has a current premium of $225.00 per month, which covers 80% costs associated with medical appoints that don’t require a bed in the hospital setting. Part D, the Medicare Drug Plan is an optional plan to assist with prescription drug costs, with little to no premiums.
Medicare Part D open enrollment begins October 15th and ends December 7th every year, providing the consumer with the opportunity to research for better or more affordable plans for the next fiscal year.
For those with limited income, the State of Alaska can assist in helping you with the cost of premiums and copays and we are here to help you navigate your retirement medical insurance. Anyone on Medicare can enroll in a Part D Prescription Plan. Extra Help is a program that helps with your prescription drug plan costs. If you qualify, you can enroll in a Medicare Part D prescription plan anytime or change your current plan. Another program that helps with Medicare costs is the Medicare Savings Program. You must be eligible for Medicare Part A (Hospital) to apply. This pays your Medicare Part B (Medical) premiums. If you are on Medicaid, SSI, or get help from the Medicare Savings Program, you automatically qualify for Extra Help already and do not need to apply.
