Hunger Action Month: One Thing at a Time

The 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar offers one meaningful action for every day of Hunger Action Month.

Hunger Action Month is a national campaign led by Feeding America each September to raise awareness and inspire action to end hunger.

Here in Alaska, 1 in 6 Alaskans, including 1 in 5 children, experiences food insecurity. Too many families are forced to choose between groceries and other essentials such as rent, medicine, or heat.

Hunger affects more than what is on the dinner table. It can make it harder to stay healthy, focus at school, maintain stability, and plan for the future.

The challenge is serious, but no one has to do everything. This September, we are asking every Alaskan to do one thing. Donate. Volunteer. Share a resource. Start a conversation. Every action helps build a stronger response to hunger across our state.

30 Ways in 30 Days

Taking action does not have to be complicated. The 30 Ways in 30 Days calendar offers one meaningful action for every day of Hunger Action Month.

Choose one prompt that speaks to you or follow along throughout September. Share the free food distribution calendar, wear orange, donate a most wanted food item, or help someone learn where to find food.

Today's prompt is to "Choose a volunteer shift and invite someone to join you." We would love to welcome new Meal Packers for our Meals on Wheels Program. This program directly addresses hunger in our area by providing five fresh meals to homebound seniors every week and also provides an opportunity for connection as each meal delivery couples as a wellness check for each of our consumers.
